2/23/02 Hello to all Bushwackers Alumni and Friends! The drum corps season will be soon be upon us and there are plenty of exciting things happening for The Bushwackers. This coming Saturday, March 2, 2002, 2:00pm at Parsippany High School we will be having a meeting to get organized for the summer. The marching members have been working hard preparing for this year, and it's time for us to work to make sure their season is as successful as possible. The marching members cannot do this on their own, they need our help. There are many new and exciting things that have been happening lately and with your help there will be no stopping the 2002 Bushwackers. There are many volunteers needed and the more of us that help as a group, the more fun we'll have together and the better the Corps will do. All parents, alumni and friends are welcome to this meeting and as a bonus you'll get to see/hear the 2002 Bushwackers. Please read the various releases from Jay Morlot, the Corps director, regarding the newest and exciting Bush news. I've also included other things that we will need volunteers for this summer. Come be a part of this year, I'll guarantee you'll have a great time doing it! Harrison Fest 2002, June 1st and 2nd Each June the city of Harrison holds a huge block party called Harrison Fest in Downtown Harrison NJ. The group that runs this festival is headed up by our friend, Councilman Anselmo Milan. The corps has received a booth, free of charge, to sell food during this 2-day event. Last year more than 60,000 people visited the festival and they expect even more this coming June. This is an opportunity we CANNOT afford to miss. Our initial plans are to sell Spanish sausage sandwiches, hot dogs, soda, and bottled water throughout the weekend. We will need help from friends, parents, and alumni on this project. My plans are to have donated all of the paper products, soda and water. We will work in shifts during the weekend, with some part-time help from the marching members that will take time away from their rehearsal time. This will be our biggest fundraiser of the year we will need your help to make it a success. How can you help? food preps, counter help, cashiers, general helpers and "go-fors" The Jersey Shore Invitational, The Bushwackers Home Show August 24, Toms River, NJ The Harrison Bushwackers and The Toms River East High School Band Boosters are proud to announce that DCA will once again return to Toms River, New Jersey on August 24, 2002. With construction done at the school, Booster president Steve Hay has been assured that nothing will get in the way of this years competition. Both organizations look forward to putting out another quality drum corps show in south Jersey and we will keep you informed as the final plans take shape. How can you help? We need: 50/50 sellers, cashiers, ticket takers, corps gate people, adbook help, parking lot attendants, security, general help, and "go-fors". New Corps Hall and Office, Harrison, NJ Again, Councilman Milan has come to our aid and has assured me that he has a HOME for the corps in the city of Harrison NJ. He has 2 properties in mind for us to use as an office and hall, one of the properties is his own campaign headquarters that is only used 2 weeks every 2 years. He is willing to let us use that space for our base of operations if the other property is not available. Again, this will be of no cost to the corps, it is being donated to us for tax purposes. That means we will need to outfit an office again. Some of the items we will need may be collecting dust somewhere in your homes. We need Folding chairs, a fax machine, small copier, computer, printer, phones, answering machine, desks, file cabinets, etc. Anything that is donated to the corps IS tax deductible. YOU can make a difference, We need YOU!!!! Jay Morlot Bushwackers Corps Director There are many people needed to help the Bushwackers have a successful year. The following I have listed more things we need volunteers for: TRUCK DRIVERS, All summer. The Corps truck is a pick-up truck with a trailer, it take no special license to drive and is easy to maneuver. For quite some time now it has been the marching members that have driven the truck. These people put in very full days of rehearsal and a performance and then when they are exhausted must drive the truck home. We have been VERY fortunate thus far that nothing has happened. This is something that you can volunteer for throughout the year. Please, please help on this it is a very serious matter that we need to resolve. SOUVIE SALES, All summer. We have many NEW items this year and will need people for every show to sell. The more the merrier, if there is a few people there it'll be easy to do and as a bonus, you get to see the whole show for free. PIT & PROP "MOVERS", All summer. We have many things that will need to be brought on and off the field for each performance for all shows. DCA CHAMPIONSHIP WEEKEND, Scraton, PA. August 30, 31, September 1, 2002. We will need people to help support the Corps in a variety of ways, so please volunteer. Saturday March 2nd - 10 AM - 6 PM, 2PM FUNDRAISING MEETING I hope to see many of you this coming weekend. If you cannot make it, please contact me or Jaybo to let us know how you can help. Thank you in advance for your support. Peace, Mary Snyder Alumni Chairperson Previous Alumni Updates |
