| Dave has been involved with music his entire life. He got his first live exposure to drum corps in 1975 seeing Midwest powerhouses at a local competition and has been a drum corps nut ever since. A brief tenure with The Colts Drum and Bugle Corps followed, in 1979 as drum major and then on the brass staff in 1980. Then his career as a theatre technician/carpenter brought him to the east coast. In the autumn of 1981 Dave read in Drum Corps World (c) about a new drum corps starting in NJ. One of his brass associates at VCU showed up at a December jazz band rehearsal with a shiny new King soprano in addition to his trumpet. The case had "Bushwackers" stenciled on the side. The first weekend of January 1982, Dave drove 300 miles north to Harrison NJ in a beat up old Datsun with holes in the floor, just to check this thing out. "I was hooked" as he gladly tells the story. Twenty nine years later? "I'm still hooked! It keeps me young!" With a few intermitent years off for work responsibilites, 2010 will be Dave's 20th year with The Bushwackers. The computer and IT world found Dave in 1987 and he continues in that field as a consultant and project manager with The Athene Group, LLC. His bottomless passion for the Bushwackers, technical, creative, motivational and logistical skills are a huge asset to the organization. As Vice President, he assists Jay in the day-to-day operations of the corps. Interfaces with equipment vendors and covers countless behind-the-scenes tasks on the Jersey side of the Hudson. Dave lives in Sparta, NJ and has the good fortune to have Jacqueline as his girlfriend. Besides being a wonderful partner and dancer, she also bakes "The Greatest Banana Bread On Earth!" The secret weapon and fuel of total awesomeness for the Bushwackers. |
