Bushwackers Announce 2001 ShowThe Bushwackers have officially announced their program for 2001! There were many great suggestions for shows this year...some of which you may see on the field somewhere down the road, but after meetings and deliberations, the creative staff emerged with a program that will surprise and entertain. Our selections? "Into the Raging River" by Steven Reineke and "On the Waterfront" by Leonard Bernstein. "In essence," shared Ed Medina, program and staff coordinator, "we're taking an idea, an "extreme sport" idea to say the least, and throwing it out on a drum corps field to see what can happen. Our design team includes the brass arrangements of Chuck Naffier, drill designs by David Weinberg, and percussion arranging by JR Bechtel. "We are all very excited about the different moods and textures we'll create on the field this year, especially the sheer aggressiveness and "drum corps to the extreme" to which we'll approach this show... we can't wait to see it for real, and we think this show will be a memorable and exciting experience for drum corps fans and judges alike." The show will feature music primarily from 2 pieces that some might not have even thought about putting together. "Into the Raging River," by Steven Reineke serves as the basis and inspiration for the show as it depicts a journey, an expedition if you will, down a river and through multiple scenes including white-water rapids, tranquil moments of beauty, and downright high-velocity. "On the Waterfront," by Leonard Berstein, adds flavor, and punch, and even more brilliance to the show. It will also enhance the "sell" of the overall idea as well as provide some recognizability. "We're taking a certain level of risk this year, as we always do," commented Mr. Medina, "but that's the Bushwackers... we pride ourselves on being ourselves, number one, but also, we take pride in being different and creative. We like to give of ourselves, perform from the heart, and contribute great things to DCA corps and the drum corps activity as a whole. Expect more of an audience connection this season that in recent memory. This year, we are working hard at making this experience fun, challenging, and educational for our members and staff. We're designing a program that will showcase our members' great talents and skills, and give them reason to receive personal as well as group gratification. We look forward to performing in DCA competition this year." |
