Bush News - Memorial Day Party and Fundraising

Hello everyone and welcome to the latest installment from the Bush News and Announcement List. We have a lot of things to tell you about this time around.

Memorial Day party!!!!

When: Sunday, May 26, 8pm

Where: Geo chemical in Harrison

We will have a performance for friends and family and then the party begins! We will be having a huge barbeque. Burgers, Dogs, etc., soda, beer (for those of age)

Everyone is invited so tell your friends and family. This party is always a blast and there is a rumor that we may even have a live band again like we did a few years back.

Dues

Well, you knew this was coming... It has been a pretty good year for dues collection, but we've hit a downturn. Unfortunately, this comes at a bad time. We need to buy a lot of stuff this time of year, so please do what you can to pay off your dues as soon as possible!

If you haven't paid your $25 registration fee yet, please make sure that at the very least you pay that this weekend.

Fundraisers

Speaking of money, we've got a couple of fundraisers coming up.

TV Raffle

We will be having a monthly TV raffle (May, June, July, and August)

The last Sunday of each month, we will be picking our winner. All members will be required to sell 2 tickets per month at $10 per ticket, mandatory! The proceeds will go towards the upfront costs of our home show. Of course, if you can sell more than 2, great!!!

March-a-thon

Sheets for our march-a-thon were given out this past weekend. We will "calculate" the number of miles we march in parades over the Memorial Day Weekend and you get people to sponsor you on a per mile basis or a flat rate. Everyone is responsible for $20. Pay it out of pocket or get some sponsors, up to you.

Harrison Fest 2002, June 1st and 2nd

Each June the city of Harrison holds a huge block party called Harrison Fest in Downtown Harrison NJ. The group that runs this festival is headed up by our friend, Councilman Anselmo Milan. The corps has received a booth, free of charge, to sell food during this 2-day event. Last year more than 60,000 people visited the festival and they expect even more this coming June. This is an opportunity we CANNOT afford to miss. Our initial plans are to sell Spanish sausage sandwiches, hot dogs, soda, and bottled water throughout the weekend. We will need help from friends, parents, and alumni on this project. My plans are to have donated all of the paper products, soda and water. We will work in shifts during the weekend, with some part-time help from the marching members that will take time away from their rehearsal time. This will be our biggest fundraiser of the year we will need your help to make it a success.

How can you help?

Food preps, counter help, cashiers, general helpers and "go-fors".

We are also looking for donations of bottled water, soda, napkins, plates, etc.

Weekend Food for Marching Members

In an effort to save time and money for our marching members, we will be offering food during lunch and dinner breaks. The cost will be $7.00 per weekend which includes lunch and dinner on Saturday and lunch on Sunday. Money will be collected on Saturday morning by Mary Snyder and staff. Please have patience while our volunteers learn the ropes on how to feed the entire corps in a timely manner.

Drumline Starting Friday Nights

The drumline will be starting Friday night rehearsals a little early this year. Beginning Friday, May 17, the drumline will be having sectionals in Harrison beginning at 8pm. While I'm sure the other sections of the corps are welcome, Friday nights for the rest of the corps will begin on May 24, the Friday of Memorial Day weekend

Weekend schedule
Saturday, May 11 - 10am - 10pm
Sunday, May 12 - 9am - 4pm

As always, please check our website for the latest updates. http://www.bushwackers.org
