News and AnnouncementsFor Immediate Release November 28, 2006 215-292-1522 Bushwackers Announce Brass StaffIn addition to Joe "Tuba Joe" Exley, the Bushwackers are very excited to announce the following additions to the 2007 Brass Staff: Scott Brown - Brass Staff We are excited to announce the return of Scott Brown as the Assistant Brass Caption Head of the award winning Bushwackers Brass line. Scott was quoted as saying, "I love having the opportunity to work with such a fine organization and with such quality and talented people." When Scott isn't teaching the Bushwackers, he is working as the Director of Instrumental Studies for the Palmerton Area School District. In addition to these duties, Scott is an active freelance brass musician performing though out Pennsylvania, New Jersey, NYC, Delaware and Connecticut. He is often found performing with such groups as The Anthracite Brassworks, The Mixolydian Brass, Endless Mountain Brass, The Soulbusters, Souled Out, The Wyoming Valley Orchestra, as well as other groups. Scott has studied with Tyrone Breuninger of the Philadelphia Orchestra as well as jazz trombonist Urbie Green John Adcock - Brass Staff John Adcock has been involved with marching band, drum & bugle corps, and indoor guard for over twenty years. His drum and bugle corps performance experience includes Suncoast Sound, Concord Blue Devils, and the 2005 DCA World Champion Reading Buccaneers Drum & Bugle Corps. He has worked as a tuba player and music arranger at Busch Gardens in Tampa, Florida, and as a tuba and bass trombone player at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. He was also a freelance low brass player and private instructor in the Tampa Bay area of Florida. In addition, John has also taught a myriad of high school bands in Florida, Alabama, and Pennsylvania; as a music and visual instructor. He is currently the brass caption head of the award-winning Upper Darby High School Band in Drexel Hill, PA., and serves as the drill designer for Emmaus High School in Emmaus, PA. John previously taught the Spring-Ford Area High School Band, and served as the visual and movement designer for the Brouhaha Winter Guard and Spring-Ford Area High School Indoor Guard. In 2006 he was the assistant brass caption head and drum major for the Carolina Gold Drum & Bugle Corps. John is a member of the National Judges Association where he serves as a music adjudicator in Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia. He recently completed seven years of service in the US Army Band where he performed as a tuba player, bass trombone player, and live sound engineer. He also served as an arranger and visual designer for many of his band's performances. In 2003 and 2004 he was deployed to Southwest Asia as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom, spending time in Iraq, Kuwait, and Qatar. Chris Kilian - Brass Staff This season will mark Chris Kilian's twelth consecutive season with the Bushwackers, his ninth as drum major, and his fourth as a staff member. In 1996, Chris joined the Bushwackers as the assistant to drum major Laurie Hall. 1997 and 1998 were spent as a member of the Bushwackers' brass section, marching baritone and soprano respectively. In 1999 Chris returned to the podium as the drum major, a position he still holds today. Chris was appointed to the administration of the Bushwackers as "corps manager" in 2002 and was hired as a member of the staff in 2004. He is looking forward to contributing to the future success of the Bushwackers. Chris studied composition at West Chester University, and is currently a freelance music arranger, instructor, and adjudicator. His most recent teaching credits include Upper Darby High School (PA) and Archbishop Ryan High School (PA). Chris is a member of the professional music fraternity Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia and is an Eagle Scout.
