Chris Rivera PhotoCHRIS RIVERA - Chris graduated from Western Connecticut State University in 2002 as a percussion major and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education. During his time at WCSU he was a member of the Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, as well as guest conducting and serving as musical director for several productions. In 2005, Chris earned a Master of Arts in Music degree in Music Theory from the University of Connecticut where he served as a graduate assistant teaching honors music theory. He has performed with groups/artists such as Dave Samuels, Arthur Lipner, Janis Potter, Gordon Stout, Jeff Hellmer, Nebojsa Zivkovic, Leigh Howard Stevens, and the New Haven Symphony.

Chris graduated from Norwalk High School (Norwalk, CT) in 1998 and began teaching there in the fall of 1999. He was the percussion arranger and percussion ensemble director for 4 years. Chris is currently teaching at Trumbull High School (Trumbull, CT) where he serves as percussion caption head, coordinator, as well as the wind and percussion arranger for the marching band. The Trumbull Marching band was the MAC Class V champion in 2006 and 2007 and the percussion section has been awarded best percussion for the past 3 years in a row.

For the past 2 years (2006, 2007), the Trumbull Indoor Percussion Ensemble has been a WGI finalist in the marching open class at WGI World Championships in Dayton Ohio. They have also won the MAC open class indoor championship every year since 2004. Chris has also written for and consulted with many area High School bands, College Ensembles, and Drum Corps. He was on staff with the Connecticut Hurricanes from 2000-2002, and 2005 (serving as caption head in 2002).

In addition to his percussion duties, Chris is also the director of instrumental studies at Shelton Intermediate School in Shelton, CT.

Chris has educational endorsements from Vic Firth, Remo, and Pearl and uses their products exclusively. He also uses Zildjian cymbals.
